Gallagher Benefit Services offers a series of workshops, designed specifically for federal employees, that cover a range of insurance topics, financial planning and retirement planning.
The goals of our workshops are:
- Provide you with simple explanations of how your benefit programs work.
- Provide information on programs that may enhance the benefits you currently have.
- Expand your scope of retirement planning to include financial issues that we all may face at one time or another.
The courses we currently offer are:
Insurance
- FEGLI and Life Insurance Planning: Explains how FEGLI works, costs associated with it and what happens to FEGLI when you retire. In addition, we review life insurance in general and explain how FEGLI can interact with your personal insurance needs.

- FEHB: Explains how the FEHB program works as well as the different types of health insurance plans available within the FEHB program. Attendees will learn how to evaluate health insurance to determine how to get the most health benefits for their money.

- Risk Management: Covers the many types of insurance policies you may buy; such as auto, homeowner's, disability and long term care. We discuss each and show how to evaluate risk and determine if you are properly insured.

Financial Planning
- Introduction to Financial Planning: Provides an overview and explanation of the tools needed to incorporate sound financial planning strategies in your life. Also discusses the main reasons people fail to achieve financial success and the six steps necessary to achieving financial success.

- Cash Management: Looks at the financial aspects associated with managing your cash flow. Specific topics include budget planning, credit card debt management and college planning.

- Tax Planning: Takes a closer look at the taxable aspects of your federal benefits and discusses ways to minimize the tax implications of them.

- Estate Planning: Looks at the need for estate planning. Topics discussed are wills, probate, trusts and durable power of attorney.

- TSP and Investment Planning: Explains how the TSP works and includes an overview of the different funds available as well as the loan and withdrawal options. In addition, it covers investment strategies for both TSP and personal investments as well as ways to integrate the two to create a complete investment portfolio.

- Long Term Care: Takes an in-depth look at the growing concerns revolving around long term care (LTC). Also covers the emotional and financial problems that LTC can have on you and your family and the solutions available.

Retirement Planning
- FERS and Retirement Planning: Discusses your FERS retirement system and Social Security. We explain how benefits are calculated and the requirements to qualify for pension benefits. In addition, we take an in-depth look at the decisions individuals make and the need to incorporate a strong investment strategy to provide you a more satisfying retirement.

- CSRS and Retirement Planning: Covers the CSRS retirement system. We explain how benefits are calculated and the requirements to qualify for pension benefits. In addition, we take an in-depth look at the decisions individuals make when they retire and provide ideas on how to get your financial house in order and effectively plan for a more satisfying retirement.

- Retirement Planning for the Future: Discusses the need to plan for your retirement and the problems people face in achieving a prosperous retirement. Topics include federal retirement plans and integrating them with your personal savings and investments and how to calculate the cost of retirement.

- Disability Retirement: Covers the benefits provided by disability retirement and the problems it may create. Federal employees in particular need to understand how disability retirement will affect their lives.
Approximate time 1 hour 30 minutes
Each workshop is interactive and customized to meet the time attendees are able to devote to it. Several different courses may be offered over a one or two day period. Agencies provide conference space either at their facility or at an offsite location and an overhead projector. Workshops are booked on a first come, first serve basis and are subject to availability.
